JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology is seeking a Bacterial Research Technologist to perform a primary role in furthering research investigating:

• Plant disease suppressive microbial communities.

• Bacterial persistence to membrane-targeting antimicrobials.

• Bacteriocin-mediated competition.

Specific projects can include:

• Performing plant community passaging experiments.

• Performing culture- and plant-based experiments to assess bacterial persistence levels to multiple antimicrobials.

• Designing and creating gene deletion strains or performing allele swaps between bacterial strains using established protocols.

This research will include synthesizing data and preparing scientific manuscripts. In addition to conducting research, the incumbent will have a primary role in day-to-day laboratory management, including purchasing, organizing, and maintaining laboratory consumables and equipment, as well as training new members of the Hockett lab. This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of refunding.

Education and Experience:

Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (both oral and written) skills. Competitive candidates must have significant microbiological experience, with an established track record of such. Experience with protein isolation and purification for functional assays, molecular genetics, and/or bioinformatics will be viewed positively.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $50,500.00
